Dwellings
These works are based on images of provisional, makeshift constructions made of cheap, usually found
materials with corrugated iron roofs, etc. like shantytowns and refugee shacks. Often a clear pictorial element
of these images is the clothesline, with clothes drying in the sun.
All of these paintings allude to the (temporary) constructions that people create for themselves as they are facing
poverty and hardship, fleeing from war and prosecution or natural disaster.
The abstract-expressionist elements in these paintings suggest a sense of chaos, juxtaposed with the
relative safety and shelter these constructions provide.
