Trifling Sanctuaries

In 2006 I presented in several exhibitions in Europe, a series of work called Trifling Sanctuaries. It was about the very intimate spaces we inhabit and the little rituals we invent to brighten up our existence. As a primordial go to experience- there was the bed- an analogy of the return to the womb and- and the water of course - reminiscent of the amniotic fluid. In these days of domestic seclusion, our home becomes the locus of the most private sanctuary and the water is experienced as the primordial cleansing element. Did you ever enter the bath with the desire to cleanse not just your body but also your soul? In fact, such practices were quite common from ancient times, baptism being just an example.
