Palimpsests

This series focuses on the deconstruction and reconstruction of the figure. Photos of self and friends are altered and recombined using different mixed-media processes [burning, scratching, drawing, collages] to propose a new reading, a surreal imagery that alludes to the impermanence and transitory nature of the human body. These mixed media collages are photographed or scanned and printed as limited editions. Palimpsests refers to archeological findings, manuscripts, "on which the original writing has been scraped or effaced to leave room for newer writing" traces of all the successive layers remain. I build my images in a similar way, scratching and erasing, layering skins, rewriting the body.
