Mourning Tears

Recording the dead as a treasured remembrance was common practice in the 19th century. Mortality rates were high especially among mothers and children (it was common for babies to remain unnamed until after their first year of life). In these images I combine the symbolism used in 19th century posthumous paintings with the reality of 19th century post mortem tintype
