Prelude
This series was inspired my growing affinity for Asemic writing and natural earth pigments - as for me they hold a rich, primal yet timeless quality and I am also drawn to textures and random marks left on the plastered walls of old urban buildings, often covered with layer upon layer with washes of paint, repeatedly scratched and their gestural marks made by passing humans over decades immortalised on the surface. I painted a base coat with heavy earth pigments to make subtle marks draped with veils of pale washes to capture the dualities of time showing presence and absence, and through light and shadow by incorporating steel wire to show; presence that create disappearing shadows of absence on the etched surface.
