Surface Work Series

This installation is work on paper exhibited in the old cinema building yard, Montejaque, Spain. The space contextualises manual labour and the work of coal miners in my family, who repeated their monotonous, restricted movements in the deepest coal mine in Scotland: 610m below the surface. THE WORK I make work which is gradually evolving within a controlled, sustained process. The shifts that appear from one piece to the next are painfully undramatic, but each new work builds on those that have gone before in a subtle and constant progression.
