About The Artwork

Next to painting I love making collages and for these I always use hand painted or hand printed papers. Often parts of sketches or unfinished paintings end up in my collages as well which gives them more meaning and depth to me. Collage means playtime and time to learn in one go. Learning about strong composition is done unconsciously. During these recent restricted times I have made loads of collages, almost one a day and they are almost a visual diairy of the past year and a half. I am inspired by collage artists like Rex Ray and Beatriz Milhazes and aspire to convey the same energy and positivity with my much smaller collages. I hope you like them too!

Since 2011 I have been working as a professional visual artist in my own studio in Scheveningen, The Hague. My preferred material to work on is wood or wallpaper. I make bold strokes on the paper with Chinese ink and acrylic paints. I investigate how my mark making and the existing patterns can melt into my very own authentic paintings. The process of the mark making, the eliminating of parts of the pattern and the letting them resurface again is fascinating to me and the end result should challenge the eyes and the mind. My pieces on wooden boards are also based on ornamental pattern elements and are made in acrylic paint using handcut stencils of parts of patterns. Making art is as essential to me as breathing is. I am very proud that my art is now in private collections in the USA, Canada, UK, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
