Butterflies In Flight Collage

Collage: Fabric on Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric). This 3 dimensional piece of art plays with pattern and texture. I am inspired by the symmetry of Mother Nature and love creating geometric patterns with natural elements atop graphic patterned textiles. The textile base to this artwork is a silk velvet Turkish ikat in a black and white pattern. The composition created atop the ikat is made up of faux butterflies in differing sizes and colors. The butterflies are made of handprinted feathers and each is hand pinned into a pattern that celebrates the pattern of the textile. The piece is framed under a clear sheet of acrylic that is secured with brushed nickel standoff hardware.
