“Conversation in a Park” Collage

This Sailors Valentine, named “Conversation in a Park” is a beautiful piece of shell art. It is an award winning piece and has won 1st place and Best Sailors Valentine at the 2014 Sanibel Shell Show. The center of the piece is surrounded by hearts crafted from smooth rice shells. Tiny mussel flowers (collected from the beaches in California) and rice shell flowers decorate the interiors of the hearts. Painted fish scales are used for leaves. The borders of the valentine are decorated with tiny flowers arrangements. Delicate, baby coquinas are used to make six-petal flowers, which are bordered by other flowers made from red brachiopods and blue operculums. Rare banana corals, from Hawaii, are placed between the flowers. The image in the center is a vintage Italian original miniature painting, framed with operculums. The entire piece is encased in a hand crafted, 12” mahogany frame and is covered with glass.
