Collage on paper. Original artwork. 25.5x16.5cm. Signed. By Martine Mooijenkind. This artwork is a collage by Martine Mooijenkind, a Dutch artist who works with mixed media and photography. The collage combines a photo of a forest with text and a moon. The forest is dark and mysterious, creating a contrast with the bright and clear moon. The text is in different fonts and sizes, and appears to be fragments of a story or a poem. The text suggests a sense of adventure, danger, and humor, as the speaker narrates their experience of crawling through the forest and encountering something unexpected. The collage is a creative and captivating expression of the artist’s imagination and style, which blends realism and surrealism. The collage invites the viewer to join the speaker in their journey, and to wonder what they saw in the forest. The collage is part of the artist’s series called “The Forest”, which explores the themes of nature, fantasy, and mystery. Martine Mooijenkind, also known as Knutseltroep, is a self-taught collage artist and graphic designer from Gouda, The Netherlands. She creates surreal collages using vintage materials and digital techniques. She also works as a care attendant for the disabled . Her artworks have been published in various magazines and online platforms. Mooijenkind started making collages in 2010, when she discovered a box of old magazines in her attic. She was fascinated by the images and stories from the past, and decided to cut them out and rearrange them into new compositions. She soon developed her own style, combining elements from different sources and eras to create surreal scenes and characters. Mooijenkind uses both analog and digital methods to create her collages. She often scans her cut-outs and edits them on Photoshop, adding filters, textures and effects to enhance the mood and atmosphere of her works. She sometimes incorporates her own drawings and photographs into her collages, creating a personal touch. Mooijenkind draws inspiration from various sources, such as music, literature, cinema, nature and dreams. She is influenced by artists such as Hannah Höch, Max Ernst, and Salvador Dali. She likes to explore themes such as identity, memory, nostalgia, fantasy and absurdity in her works. Mooijenkind has exhibited her collages in several venues in The Netherlands and abroad. She has also participated in various collaborative projects with other artists and organizations. Mooijenkind is currently working on new collages and projects.
