ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Guadalupe is from my memories as a child growing up and spending my holidays in Mexico. I grew up on the border, and the shapes and colors of Mexico are sometimes found in my works. It is named after my close childhood friend. This is a birch panel, with 1.5 inches depth, covered with vintage magazines that have been hand painted and distressed. The artist's touch is apart of the work to be admired in this collage. A fingerprint and distressed papers, all add to its uniqueness and personality. Sides of the panel are painted black and can easily be framed if desired or hang as is. It does not need glass as it is sealed with finish and presented as a painting.

My collage material comes from mid-century magazines and found papers which I paint. As the collage takes shape, additional paint or markings are added to enhance certain elements. I am intrigued by the possibilities of arrangement and structure. My paintings develop in the same fashion. There are rhythms; playing with the formal elements, exemplifying the beauty of shape, texture and color. The work infers architecture, landscape and sometimes music. The creation of the work is a straightforward process; paper forms are laid next to each other until there is unity. It is a practice of free-association and deep-rooted discovery.
