About The Artwork

My work is inspired by the paper I use. I have a large collection of old books, magazines and journals that I use as my palate. This particular piece is made from National Geographic magazines and comments on current issues relating to global warming, natural disasters and the migration of people and animals. I don't try to guide or dictate what the viewer sees but prefer to play with form, light, movement etc. in a way that is open for the viewer to interpretate. This way the collage becomes a unique experience for the viewer who's own experiences, thoughts, states and reactions dance and interact with the collage itself. The title relates to my interpretation. I choose this medium to work with because of the vast choice it gives me, the complexity of content, beauty and sophistication, it's history, and my love of paper.

I am a collage artist, film maker and choreographer from London. Initially I trained as a professional contemporary dancer at the London Contemporary Dance School and went on to perform throughout Europe and the United States before returning to England to complete a Master of Arts Degree. I first began making small collages to send as cards to family and friends whilst I traveled and worked abroad. I have always played with many art forms including photography and painting, but collage seemed to stick (excuse the pun!). I then started to make bigger collages when I started to receive positive feedback, which lead me to putting on my first exhibition. It was an important turning point for me when I realised that my work was appreciated by a wide audience and of all ages. Within my collages you will find a synergy between: everyday life and objects, nature, energy, movement, colour and light, and often a touch of humour. I create sensory and emotional landscapes which provoke and resonate within people. This unique interaction between the viewer and collage, brings my work to life. My collages are made from recycled paper, magazines, old books and journals, some dating as far back as the 1930's. Most of my inspiration comes from the paper I use.
