This sculpture is an interpretation from an earlier illustration; the concept of this work is a simple collaboration of two subjects that, out of context hold no relation (categorically), but within a cultural understanding maintain a very intermit & obvious relationship.

Harry Robbins is a Brighton based mixed media artist. Primarily a draftsman, his work transcends genres to include painting, sculpture & tattooing. Originally a small town boy hailing from North Devon, his work reflects the influence of nature in his early life. This has morphed into the typically English obsession with the wilderness and the mystery and illusion synonymous with folklore. The influence of this results in a naturalistic subject matter greatly influenced by tall tales and olde worlde aesthetic. A sense of the surreal, mysterious and unknown resonates through his work; be it drawings with chaotic, twig like line work, sculptures incorporating small items of taxidermy or paintings with an ephemeral tactility saturating the canvas. "Though I would say I am more a "˜traditional artist' than conceptual, with that in mind, the tendencies of my work are symbolic; either containing a deceived or obvious message." Harry draws on the past and concentrates hard on the execution of his ideas, ever embracing traditional practice and method and combining/juxtaposing this with contemporary materials to create truly interesting results that challenge the viewer's perception of nature and concept. His drawing influence comes from a sense of belief (be it religious, superstitious, mythological, magical, historical or scientific) his research methods are broad and far reaching. Unhindered by convention, his studio is like something from a discarded pile of magazines in a charity shop. The items and subjects that you can pluck from the space are incoherent and surprising, but they accurately reflect the person they surround.
