About The Artwork

Clearly inspired by the delight of Matisse's cutouts, this series consists of Color-Aid paper cut into collages. I"m mostly self-taught as an artist but took a couple of courses in the late 1970s at the Cambridge (MA) Center for Adult Education, a short walk into Harvard Square from my apartment. I used a pack of Color-Aid paper for my Color and Design course assignments and had lots left. A couple of decades later, I began making collages with it, including this one. I love watching fires and being outside, so that's what I seem to have recreated here. This playful collage feels to me Japanese in influence. There are small imperfections on the brown background, so this piece is a bit wabi-sabi. The print is cropped due to Saatchi's print sizes limitations, but the image still works well.

Grew up in Jacksonville, FL. 30 years Santa Fe, NM. 8 years in Marin County, CA. “Art is a doorway, the freshness of the fountain within. My inspiration comes from quiet interior states, meditation experiences, and contemplative creative time with nature, books, and art. I create art that expands and enlivens consciousness, that nourishes, heals and makes whole, and is a wonder to myself and others.” Artist Interviews: https://theheroinejourney2016.wordpress.com/2017/07/06/the-heroines-journey-of-sherri-silverman/ + many more from 2022, 2023 on my website.
