Palermo Collage

These fragments of posters were ripped from the billboards of Palermo, Sicily in the summer of 2017. This artwork is my diary and my memories of that trip. Bright sunlight, dusty streets, heat and colour. Circus posters combine with layers of other information often dating back to the previous year at least and torn from the streets around the Porta Nuova just outside the city centre. This piece traces my walks around that district which is away from the 'beaten track', photographing endless textures, posters and buildings. I also wanted this artwork to reflect the faded spirit seen in the back streets of this wonderful city. Many of the torn fragments of posters used here have been bleached and faded by endless days of sunshine and whilst making this piece I also included the dust of the city which was still attached to some of the poster tears and is now glued into this piece forever.
