SAY IT LOUD Collage

Inspired by James Brown, who has inspired generations of musicians, and continues to do so today (Bruno Mars, Prince, and many more). I have always loved the music of James Brown, but recently became aware of his civil rights activism. Many of his lyrics in the late 60's, early 70's reflect his political and social awareness. In this piece, I hope the viewer feels the exuberance of James Brown's music, and in viewing some of the smaller details, become aware of his participation in a tumultuous time in civil rights history. I chose colors that reverberate with the energy of James Brown's music. The glass tiles with numbers are a nod to the countdown (1,2,3,4...take it to the bridge!) I created SAY IT LOUD in hopes of visually capturing some of the energy of an amazing performer and social activist.
