Born in Würzburg in 1973, Germany, Nikola Jaensch received her degree of fine arts from the Academy of Arts Mainz, Germany. In 2006 she was given the title of ‚Meisterschüler‘ in the drawing class of Prof. Dieter Brembs. Work by Jaensch has been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions, most recently in 2016 at Schmiede Wettig in Nieder-Olm on the occasion of receiving the art prize of the Zonta Club of Mainz. In 2011, she won the Woldemar-Winkler-Art-Award of the Woldemar-Winkler foundation in Gütersloh. Also in 2011, she received the „Kunstpreis Trier-Saarburg“ for young german painters. In 2004/2005 she was awarded with the ‘Mainzer Stadtdruckerpreis’, an important prize for printmaking assigned by the Gutenberg-Museum Mainz, Germany. In 2007 the jury of the Walter Koschatzky Kunst-Preis in Vienna, Austria, acquired several of her works. Known for her drawings, works on paper and collage (often covered by a layer of beeswax), Jaensch has in recent years expanded her practice to include sculpture, painting, film and installation elements. Her main interest is the artistic combination of different materials and manners of perception. Jaensch’s work is held in private and museum collections, including the Gutenberg-Museum Mainz, the State Museum of Rhineland-Palatinate (Mainz), the art collection of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Arp-Museum Rolandseck, the Ministry of Culture (Rhineland-Palatinate) and the State Bank of Baden-Württemberg (Germany). Nikola Jaensch currently lives and works in Mainz and near the Lake Constance. Jaensch’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions, for instance at the Kunstverein Essenheim (2007), the Kunstverein Paderborn (2009), the Saarländisches Künstlerhaus (2009) the Kunstverein Neustadt (2010) and the Municipal Art Gallery in Lehrte near Hannover (2012). Her work has also been shown in group exhibitions at the „Biennale de la Gravure des Nouvelles Images“, Paris (2001), Kunstverein Reutlingen (2008), Museum of Modern Art Vienna (2007), „Graphikmuseum Pablo Picasso“ Münster (2009) and the „whiteBOX“ Munich (2011).
