This piece is another homage to fabled women of the sea. The siren like figure lounges under the stars wrapped in sheet music. Her hair is collaged with a map of the sea & her rock is a collage from a St. Louis Newspaper from the 1860's. All shading is done with ink & watercolor, and fine details with colored pencil. Her moon is gold leaf, and her abundant stars are a gold leaf paint. Substrate is 1.5 inch birch plywood panel. Final Touches: Three coats of satin finish UV sealer. This piece comes in a 1" wide x 3" deep black stained poplar frame; ready to hang with coated wire. General: Inspired by folklore, mythology & the human form, I use figural subjects to evoke a mysterious familiarity & haunting beauty. I build layers of antique & vintage paper collage mixed with my original ink washed drawings to create depth on wooden panels. I save and incorporate historical references through my use of collage, this element creates topical & textural details. Thematically I incorporate my love of the spirit as well as the strength of the feminine. I address symbolic, cultural, historical & spiritual themes with purposeful vagueness, allowing them to be familiar & curious to a variety of audiences. I want my work to be the beginning of a dialogue, not a confrontation.

Figurative Mixed Media Collage artist/painter traveling the United States selling and showing work via Art shows, fairs and galleries. My background is still-based photography but with the world of digital, everything has no feeling. You don't touch the work anymore. I needed something tactile so I decided to explore other mediums. Through experimentation & exploration I found collage. I start with original drawings that are cut and collaged onto wood with antique and vintage papers to create new imagery. There are layers of paper, ink, watercolor and colored pencil usually with a gold leaf feature. Symbolism comes from religious Icons, German Expressionist Movement, Contemporary Fashion, Mythology & Folklore to name a few.
