ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Amelia was a dreamer, a wanderer, and a lover of the unknown. She spent her days exploring the vast expanse of the sky, where the clouds were her companions and the sun was her guide. One day, as she was floating amidst the clouds, she saw a fish swimming in the sky. It was unlike any fish she had ever seen before, with stripes of copper and ivory that shimmered in the sunlight. The fish swam towards her, and as it got closer, Amelia could see galaxies within its eyes. They spoke without words, and in that moment, Amelia knew that she had found a kindred spirit. They spent hours together, swimming through the clouds and watching the sunset. As the day drew to a close, the fish whispered a secret to Amelia, a secret that would change her life forever.

Martine Mooijenkind, also known as Knutseltroep, is a self-taught collage artist and graphic designer from Gouda, The Netherlands. She creates surreal collages using vintage materials and digital techniques. She also works as a care attendant for the disabled . Her artworks have been published in various magazines and online platforms. Mooijenkind started making collages in 2010, when she discovered a box of old magazines in her attic. She was fascinated by the images and stories from the past, and decided to cut them out and rearrange them into new compositions. She soon developed her own style, combining elements from different sources and eras to create surreal scenes and characters. Mooijenkind uses both analog and digital methods to create her collages. She often scans her cut-outs and edits them on Photoshop, adding filters, textures and effects to enhance the mood and atmosphere of her works. She sometimes incorporates her own drawings and photographs into her collages, creating a personal touch. Mooijenkind draws inspiration from various sources, such as music, literature, cinema, nature and dreams. She is influenced by artists such as Hannah Höch, Max Ernst, and Salvador Dali. She likes to explore themes such as identity, memory, nostalgia, fantasy and absurdity in her works. Mooijenkind has exhibited her collages in several venues in The Netherlands and abroad. She has also participated in various collaborative projects with other artists and organizations. Mooijenkind is currently working on new collages and projects. She hopes to share her passion for collage art with more people and inspire them to unleash their creativity. She believes that collage art is a powerful way of expressing oneself and communicating with others.
