About The Artwork

Mixed media on stretched canvas. Two stills from the bridge scene in the movie, It's A Wonderful Life, placed one on top of the other, to suggest the sequence of cinema. These particular stills from the movie were chosen for their artificially snowy atmosphere, which alters the perceived space and reveals the illusion of the film. The painting parallels this self-referential moment in the movie, via a build-up of paint material in the snowy areas of the picture, which contradicts the two-dimensional source material. This contrast also suggests the nature of nostalgia as a form of embellished or invented memory.
