About The Artwork

This work focuses on a female figure who is about to participate in an official union; questions revolve around the act of marriage and the motivations which may lead to it. The bride shows us two sides: one related to purity and illusion - the white doves, the enchanted prince and her overall purity, represented by the bride's props. On the other hand, she reveals her ambitious, materialistic side, through different jewels and details on the dress, giving her a splendorous, scenic appearance. Some of the images take us back to the infancy and adolescence, specially regarding the female gender and its condition. Specially in a culture where young women were and still are supposed to be “saved and rescued” by others; or to times when the female gender was and still is seen as an adornment. All the hooks fixed on her dress and the images of different types of fish fuse with the jewels. Due to a similarity in textures, they create a greater emphasis on the story around the portrayed figure: the bride is “fishing” for a groom; in fact she has already succeeded in doing so. This notion is reinforced by the cunning wink of her eye, inducing the possibility of her being aware of the act. But once captured, a fish will die; we are confronted with an allusion regarding those who are captured alive and the dream or illusion of who is capturing whom. There lies the reason for the construction of this piece - the eventual consequences of this act.
