About The Artwork

This art collage is a work by Innocent TWAGIRUMUKIZA, utilizing the paper cut-out technique to create an expressive and graphic portrait. The artwork's title is "The golden smile - Jack Johnson," portraying the renowned American boxer Jack Johnson, the first black heavyweight world champion. - The artwork is a stylized and simplified representation of Jack Johnson's face, crafted from cut-out shapes forming the contours and features of the face. - It employs a collage technique that contrasts the facial elements against the background, emphasizing the facial structure. - Using a two-color palette of brown and beige tones reinforces the collage effect, imparting a modern and minimalist atmosphere to the piece. - It simplifies the eyes, nose, mouth, and other facial features while keeping them recognizable and expressive. This collage conveys both the strength and joy of the boxer, who made history in sports and the fight against racism. Therefore, this bichromatic art collage is an original and creative piece, employing a simple yet effective technique to represent and pay homage to an inspiring historical figure.

🇬🇧 Passionate about sculpture and painting, I developed my own technique in a self-taught way. I started to exhibit my works to the public during my law studies at the Panthéon Sorbonne University, where I discovered the pleasure of sharing my artistic vision. In 2004, after obtaining my law degree, I deepened my knowledge of sculpture at the Heatherley School of Fine Art in London. Back in France, I continued to train at the Ateliers des Beaux Arts de the city of Paris in 2015, while continuing my artistic creation. I sculpt with different mediums: wood, clay, stone, paper. I let the final shape of the work reveal itself through the sculpting process. I compose my works with several objects, sometimes sculpted at different times. I assemble them harmoniously to express an idea, a feeling, a movement or a sound.
