About The Artwork
“The Great Cataract of Multnomah Falls” is a large-scale collage. Technical illustration and patent drawings are laser-printed on paper, deconstructed by hand, and affixed to primed canvas with acrylic gel. This is an exploration of presenting a tremendous volume of information while maintaining painting sensibilities and spontaneity, as well as raising the possibility of organic shapes. Information in aggregate loses individual identities and emerges from the mechanical source material in a new arrangement. "The Great Cataract of Multnomah Falls” employs no pre-visualization or digital sketching beforehand. The position of each element is informed by the other pieces that surround it. This piece took about four months to complete.
