About The Artwork

This contemporary nativity painting is inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt. You can find elements of composition, patterns, lines, color, material, and symbolism. The contrast is found, of course, in the subjects and theme painted, though the theme of "love" and the focus on Mary as a woman and mother being emulated is also found in Klimt's work. The tilted head is reminiscent of the work of Klezmer where Mary is humble, her heart inclined to receive from God. In this Nativity scene, we find Mary holding Jesus close to her heart. This simple nativity painting focuses on Mary's love for her son Jesus and is reminiscent of the Bible verse that speaks of all that Mary observed in the first months of Jesus' life: "But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart" (Luke 2:19) In this Nativity Christmas painting has elements of Renaissance art and art nouveau. Mary's dress is embossed silver. Her flowing hair is crowned with a gold and silver halo. Baby Jesus is wrapped in a embossed silver blanket. His head is crowned with a gold halo with gold leafed trees.
