About The Artwork

A multi-coloured mass of vivid overlapping circles are radiating joy and happiness. Made from individual paint circles dried, removed from their backing, and then layered over one another to result in an unusual work with striking dimension. For those who love colour this work will make a dramatic yet fun statement in any room. A fascination for circles and a love of retro design led to this collection of works that combine the fun and the funky with colourful pops of colour and pattern. These upbeat paintings are filled with an eye catching proliferation of this most friendly of shapes

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
