This image is of a time for choosing-between. In this situation, the ability to choose comes from connection with one's deepest nature and leads to peace of mind. Artemis the Maiden faces the Cougar. Gentle, eyes closed. This might be a turning-away or a caress, but Nature, however directed, is always true to its being. In harmony with our deepest nature, we are in tune with Choice. This image is an homage to the gorgeous sculpture of Paul Manship, and inspired by a nighttime visit from a cougar, like a dream, but very real indeed, passing through my desert land.... My earliest deep fascination was with the Renaissance and Early Netherlandish painters, and my first love was oil painting. Since then I have followed my nose, exploring myriad media: drawing, digital/text and mixed media, and three dimensional making. Most recently, I have created figural sculptures using my own methods, in an engagement with powerful mythical figures: Garuda, Saraswati, Naga Khanya. I am a mythologist as well as an artist, with a Ph.D. in Mythological Studies. My work is a spiritual practice and partakes in a relationship with energy that comes from my shamanic and Tao studies and practices. Art, like every sentient and even 'non-sentient' being in the cosmos, carries its own life. We, as makers, are privileged to help this life come into being.
