About The Artwork
sand on cardboard 192 x 81 cm 2016 This work was presented as part of my solo exhibition Lotus in the Backyard, in which I explored the relationship between Kibbutz Ha’Zorea, where the Wilfrid Israel Museum is located, and the east-asian art displayed in it. The work is based on photographs of the aquatic gardens where the lotuses are cultivated - one of the kibbutz’s farming branches. The work was created by manual cutting and gluing of sand in various shades, collected by my father who is a civil engineer, from different building sites across Israel. The sand represents the connection to the land and place from which it was collected.
