About The Artwork

Classic video game imagery with every pixel replaced by a QR code. There are 1,521 unique codes in total, each linking to an individual tweet. The tweets were specially selected from accounts all over the globe, some inspiring, many challenging. All are genuine. The tweets embedded inside each video game character share one key word, the undisclosed title of that character. – Created in 2011, the work was left for 10 years to allow the links to degrade over time. An unknown number of links have expired or are inactive. Some messages have been taken down or the accounts deleted, with the tweet references embedded in the code now the only record they existed. Many are active. They all may or may not disappear over time, slowly altering the nature, interactivity and meaning of the piece. An exploration of static media versus online media, their relationship, permanence and the tension between them. – Exhibited at TedXLondon, London Art Fair and on the London Tube as an advert for Tenderpixel gallery.
