Artistic statement.
Exploration, personal reflection and discovery are what I seek in all things I enjoy, including art. I want the art I create to provoke, move, or disrupt the viewer- to transport them, at least momentarily, to a new or perhaps forgotten and deeply felt place. To know this is to know me.
I want my art to confront the viewer and raise questions, not answer them. I believe there should be a mystery to my art that encourages a long arc of exploration, personal reflection, and discovery. Therefore, it is important to me to only gently narrate what I have in mind. It is more important to me that a viewer finds their own journey into, and out of my artwork, based upon their unique experiences and needs.
In my art, I measure my success when I have refined a piece by stripping out unnecessary elements, colors and marks and perhaps more importantly- thinking less and feeling more, until I find the most evocative and authentic expression of the idea.
This is my artistic way.
I have studied Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Abstract-Expressionism and Minimalism with great enthusiasm. My work may overlap several art genres at once as I am less concerned with traditional labels and more concerned with ideas.
