The Natural Quirks collection is inspired by my passion for the natural world. The illustrations are hand painted in watercolours and woven together with flora and fauna, using colour to bring fun and flamboyance to each piece. I wanted to create something that the viewer could connect with, through characters and stories drawn from my own experiences. Butterfinch has its own story.......read below. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are blessed with life. By playing small you are not serving the world. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. The words above are adapted from Marianne Williamson’s ‘Our Deepest Fear.’ After years without painting, Red Betty created Butterfinch, the illustration which began the Natural Quirks collection.
