About The Artwork

"And into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul'" John Muir This forest is one of the most ancient woodlands in UK. The Wyre Forest. It is a place to get lost in easily and feel transposed by its silence and mystery. In this land of wood and flora one can resonate with a sense of space and time and the ability to reach into abstract realms. There is a mythical quality to these giant trees where one is drawn as an observer to contemplate the immensity of the planet and our relation to it. As we observe nature in its constant flux , I endeavour to demonstrate these shifts as the images appear to breathe deeply through effortless movement of substance and light. This a a limited series of 5 printed on Aluminium Dibond. The nature of the metal brings much depth to the image. There is a hook attached so the work will sit almost flat to a wall with a small under-hang which provides an atmospheric shadow. Aluminium Dibond is a composite material. It is 3 mm (1/8 in.) thick and has 3 layers. Two aluminium layers with a platinum white look, sandwich a black polyethylene core. The lateral face is black. the image printed on aluminium Dibond is a top-grade, robust print with a long lifespan. The substrate is a sheet of aluminium with a white coating. the image is printed directly on the aluminium using a modern, 7-colour technique using top-grade UV Fine Art inks. Colours are highly saturated, even in large monochrome sections. Direct prints on aluminium are matte and glare-free, but the whites and bright areas have a faint, silky gloss.

Suzanna is an artist working in the West Midlands UK. Her works are held in private collections throughout the UK and internationally. Having grown up in the east coast of Scotland, her vision developed from a surrender to the wilder elements of climate, nature and convergence. Her work evolves from a response to an environment, place or experience. The use of the figure in her drawings/paintings records processes incurred through the journey of life, which appear as an odyssey of surreal convergences where humans relate and integrate. She endeavours to capture something which is fundamental to the human condition. Through a manipulation of light, and form, she uses opposites to shape contrasting edges and link them through hapless boundaries, where connections arise and unfold, in a rhythmic dreamlike resonance. The process of unfolding becomes a shaping of light; as a movement through metaphor and time. Within these ‘stories’ there are details - intimate portrayals, which become a rendering of an inner sensitivity to the world. These are ‘portraits of life’ where we are assigned the role of voyeur. The digital constructs in her current photography hold an inclusion of seascape and landscape, sometimes depicting a lone figure deep in contemplation. There is a resonance with space and time and an endeavour to reach into abstract realms. Such is the mythical quality to these images, which appear to breathe deeply through an effortless movement of substance and light. Suzanna’s insights have evolved through a bridging of two careers, one as a social worker, working within the domains of safeguarding children who have experienced abuse, and one as a artist. As an artist she drew from the unsettling world of vulnerability, trauma and loss. She has evolved her learning and insight from the work of the Psychologist Carl Jung, where she utilised Abstract Expressionism as a means to explore how ‘life forms’ journey through a world often set with great challenges. Observations from others: ... 'there is something ancient about the figures, as if they were the keepers of truths, long forgotten....' Another wrote in an editorial after a visit to her studio which offers a description more personal. . ...... 'Amidst lofty ceilings, there were large 14 ft paintings tacked to her wall with Velcro. Bundles of work, some in frames, some in rolls, litter every alcove and beyond…….. Suzanna uses primarily black and white. We live in a coloured world.
