About The Artwork

Malcom X Mugshot Pop Art Warhol style print Original: giclee on canvas hand signed, numbered and dated - 48" x 60" with 2" extra border - rolled / shipped in tube. Prints - photo paper, fine art paper or canvas signed and dated. Malcolm X (born Malcolm Little; May 19, 1925 – February 21, 1965) was an African American Muslim minister and human rights activist who was a popular figure during the civil rights movement. He is best known for his time spent as a vocal spokesman for the Nation of Islam. At this time in his life, Malcolm "Detroit Red" Little was involved in petty crime and hustling. This mugshot was for a charge of larceny, for which he was given probation. His later arrest in 1946 got him a 8 year prison sentence. During this imprisonment he totally reformed himself and made the decision to join the Nation of Islam. In the 1960s, Malcolm X began to grow disillusioned with the Nation of Islam, as well as with its leader Elijah Muhammad. He subsequently embraced Sunni Islam and the civil rights movement after completing the Hajj to Mecca, and became known as el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz. On February 21, 1965, he was assassinated in New York City
