About The Artwork
This work was created out of a dark period in my personal life and reflect many memories of visiting pleasant shores on sunny days. A ray of hope if you will. My artwork explores the cross-overs between photography, collage, digital art and cubist paintings as a way of capturing memories and imagination. The pictures are created using a pen and ink style digitally, based upon my own photographs, and are printed with high-definition inks on stretched canvas. In this vibrant and dynamic composition, the fusion of expressionist and cubist principles transports the viewer into a sun-drenched day at the seaside. The canvas bursts with bold and fractured forms, capturing the essence of a moment bathed in sunlight. The radiant sun dominates the sky, its brilliance reflected in the undulating waves below. Seagulls and kites soar through the air, their fragmented shapes merging with the energetic atmosphere. A stoic lighthouse stands nearby, its geometric facets echoing the cubist influence. On the sandy shingle beach, shells and seaweed create a textured mosaic, embodying the expressive chaos of nature. The playful exploration of nearby rockpools is suggested through fragmented glimpses, with hints of nearby activity and vibrant colours conveying the joy of discovery. Beneath the surface of the sea, fish swim in linear pattern, adding a surreal touch to the maritime scene. Along the promenade, colourful beach lockers stand as geometric sentinels, contrasting against the fluidity of the sea and sky. Curved forms echo the radiant sun and a large, discovered shell adding a sense of dynamic contrast between what is seen above and below. This synthesis of expressionist emotion and cubist structure invites the viewer to experience the seaside through a kaleidoscopic lens, where the beauty of nature and human activity converges in a visually dynamic and captivating tableau.
