The story about the picture: Stackelberg was a brilliant economist who was widely known for his contributions to game theory. He was always seeking ways to improve upon the traditional methods of analyzing strategic behavior in decision-making. One day, Stackelberg was strolling through the streets of Vienna when he stumbled upon a group of street vendors selling their wares. As he watched, he noticed that each vendor was engaged in a fierce competition with their neighbors, undercutting each other's prices and vying for customers. Stackelberg immediately saw the potential for his theories to be applied in this scenario. He approached the vendors and explained to them the concept of a "Stackelberg competition," where one player, the leader, would set their price first and the other players, the followers, would then adjust their prices accordingly. The vendors were skeptical at first, but Stackelberg was persuasive. He convinced one vendor to act as the leader and set their price, while the others would follow suit. The leader set a high price, and the others followed, resulting in a higher profit for all.
