The drawing depicts a period of time. The bird spends the majority of time on the middle perch, ironically, this affords the view towards the closed door. Drawings recording it's small movements are layered one on top of the other, until something catches it's eye and the bird moves to another position, looking from out of the bars at the bottom of the cage. Purposefully there is the juxtaposition of two drawing styles; a mixture of lifelike imagery without a huge amount of detail (the movement of the bird) and detailed imagery without being overly lifelike (the cage). It brings together the idea of what is natural, and what is unnatural - the bird is naturally a free creature, and it is unnatural for it to be living in a cage, and the question; what is real and what is unreal in this instance - freedom and captivity for example. Jill Hudson BA (HONS) Fine Art A graduate of Falmouth College of Arts, I live and work in Cornwall. As an artist I am interested in depicting the beauty of the inconsequential moment - A shaft of light across the floor, a shadow through the trees in the evening. I want to capture the essence of an image which otherwise might be overlooked. My art is about the landscape of life in all its forms - its fleetingness, its poetry, its loneliness, and its reality. I have traveled in Africa and South America and gain great inspiration from exploring - I paint wherever I go. In 2005 I spent time working with Raleigh International as their Expedition Artist in Chile. On leaving the project I trekked to glaciers in southern Chile, and also spent time on Easter Island.
