About The Artwork

"Searching the Mysterious Side of the Landscape" "Desires that Battle from Within" represents an internal struggle against unappealing forces. I can’t see myself here but I can see an image of someone like me who is crying out and being forced down an airstream. The scene is dark and in motion. The struggle is in an open arena in space. I can make out a golden jewelry container and a yellow display item that was there at one time. But now it is just an impression of what used to be there. I see authority figures who exert great control. The flying creature and the circulating beast with teeth are ready to strike. Are there large insects in the struggle, not sure, but the gorilla-shaped creature is holding its ground. I don’t know the meaning of some of the shapes yet. This area in space appears to be an old area since the stones look very old. How old then is my struggle? I want to look around more but I don’t want to get caught.

Searching the Mysterious Side of the Landscape Retired on Long Island so there is more time for artwork, walking some, running some, and exploring a love of nature. God and family are there too. Currently, my artwork involves the use of colored pencils on quality paper. The theme is Searching the Mysterious Side of the Landscape. I use landscape imagery as a means to search for the unseen. Perhaps to uncover a mystery, to show a struggle, or to creatively suggest that there is more going on than we can see. Most of us are confronted with notions of something more than ourselves present in our environment. Forces are at work. Is evil real? I question if the human heart has really changed that much over time. Evil can be tempting. But, there is something holding evil back or all would be evil and I could not recognize it. The something must be greater than evil. But this will change too. Can one imagine the freedom to be had from experiencing the idea that there is no thought of evil from anyone, any institution, anywhere in the world? The struggle against evil actions such as killing, hurting, hatred, slavery, stealing, and others, will no longer be active and can finally find rest.
