____________________ Candlume The equation which leads to this title is the following: Candle + Perfume + Lumière (French word for light) = Candlume This drawing was created with coloured pencils on paper and is the result of combining imagination with creativity. The candle in this position is an allegory for willpower and resistance. The same effect is strengthened by the flame and the melting wax of the candle. Both the flame and the wax respond to the gravitational pull. But the candle withstands the earth's gravity and stays in this fragile position to give the viewer a beautiful view on its presence. There are three Quotes which I relate to this drawing. 1. “It is easier to resist at the beginning than at the end.” ― Leonardo da Vinci Because there are two options, either the flame extinguishes and the candle can still resist to gravitational force or it is too late and the candle burns out completely, submits to gravity and flows in the form of wax to the ground. 2. “You see, the point is that the strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone.” ― Henrik Ibsen 3. “Where there is power, there is resistance.” ― Michel Foucault Together with the three drawn objects (the candle, perfume and the dice), it adds up to six. That is why the dice displays its six-doted side.
