Sound the late January bells. Japan saw record high deficits at the end of 2012, and the asian markets are volatile as a result. Some analysts view the high cost of Japanese exports as retarding the stimulus and recovery of the world's third largest economy. Given the terrible impact of the tsunami and nuclear meltdown in Japan in recent years, it is a double whammy of sorts, that the economy is suffering now, when they need more fiscal fortune than any time since the end of the Second World War. Of course Japan is an incredibly resilient and advanced society, and its people are incredibly hard workers. Although they are often caricatured as copycats who are not very inventive, the truth is that there are an enormous amount of Japanese inventions which have been adopted by people the world over, and we aren't just talking sushi here. Japanese inventors and companies have brought the world everything from the walkman to the CD to the domestic robot appliance.
