Many parents spend their time, money and thought into curating their children’s playrooms. They seek to create an environment that is calming, evokes creativity and brings their children a sense of joy and playfulness. Later on in life, the various toys that occupied space in our homes become objects that carry a life-long meaning and emotional connection. This work explores the childhood playroom and the safety, excitement and joy that it signals. It encourages us to examine whether we continue to think thoughtfully about what occupies the space we live in as adults. How can we continue to cultivate innocence and playfulness beyond childhood?

Liya Jacobi, native of Tel-Aviv. On earth since: 26/01/87. Liya Jacobi is a Tel Aviv based artist, toy designer and a special needs advocate with experience in child therapy and graphic design. Liya combines traditional craftsmanship with modern intention, creating unique objects while unexpectedly merging form and function. By playing with preconceptions about art and design - the social, cultural and historical relations to objects we all share - she provides a new context. Presenting alternatives to contemporary appliances, she adds unforeseen functionality and a delicate execution to her work. Liya studied Visual Communication at Instituto Europeo di Design in Milan and Toy Design at Shenker College of Engineering and Design.
