Courtier Drawing

Depicting a heavily armored medieval courtier, this mechanical, Pierre Noire and colored pencils, as well as dry pastel drawing, has part historical and part fantasy inspiration behind. The theme is late medieval Moldavia. The character is framed by an east european folclorical wood carving (top), by a - fantasy - logo of the Principality of Moldavia (bottom left) and by a tree bark lamella (bottom right) bearing the title: Curtean, meaning Courtier, or courtman, in romanian. During the medieval times, the Curteni military class was that of a rural nobility (small boyars). The Curtean was a military man serving at a voivodal court, with the attached land and privileges in return for military service and tax collection duties.
