About The Artwork
This piece was created in one sitting after an afternoon spent on train tracks and exploring a hobo encampment here in Indianapolis. I was with new friends who live decidedly less rooted lives than myself — they travel almost constantly and live by their wits. The diffuse nature of the figure and lack of sure footing displayed reflects their more ephemeral existence. Creosote is the black material used to coat and protect wooden railroad ties here in the US. Commune reflects the togetherness I felt with these kindred spirits.

I live and work currently in Indianapolis, Indiana. It’s diversity and humble vibe has informed who I am. I have enjoyed creating in many media over the years, but drawing has been at the heart of my practice since I was very young. I work primarily in ink, watercolor, and sometimes acrylic. I consider my work to be in a visionary vein, though I allow realism, diagrammatic abstractions, and subtle abstract modulations to all take their place in my oeuvre.
