About The Artwork

Crouching (method of display) is form a series of works in which the human figure is reduced to hands or feet, signifiers of labour. Most images have been edited from manuals, instructional books, advertisements or accessed manually through archives although others were sourced online. In all these drawings, the theme of industry is integral; all images feature or suggest manufacturing methods or industrial processes that have either declined dramatically or been rendered obsolete.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Drawing forms the backbone of William Hughes’ practice. Images are culled from a variety of sources; manuals and books, found photo albums and photographs, online and offline image archives. Reproduced in graphite, the work aims to measure the inertia of the anonymous image- wrested from wider contextualising structures and reproduced wholesale- against the potentiality of drawing as a meditative, developmental platform. Fragmented or isolated with occasional textual interventions, images become multiplicitous signifiers, indicative of wider social and political meaning.
