About The Artwork

A tall willowy dance figure is standing on the tip of her toes, she is a young athlete in a skin tight tunic with a transparent skirt. Her costume is designed to barely interfere with the shape of her form. She is caught in transient movement as she takes a brief pause between the last and her following movement. She holds a piece of chiffon to create shapes with it in the air. The swirling shapes made by the material.complement her moves. The figure is drawn on brown paper which is heated to create a slight delicate texture on the surface. She is formed from a blend of water Colour pastel pencils and ink pens and gouache.Sold unframed.

I studied at The Sir Henry Douton School of Sculpture in the 1980's. This was an apprenticeship in Figurative sculpture which was sponsored by the china company Royal Doulton. The patron was Elizabeth Frink. I had studied Ceramics and Design prior to this at Croydon College. I spent a couple of years travelling around Europe and returned to my favourite place which is Brighton. I then embarked on a teaching career. I still teach part time. I teach Art and Design and Technology. I have lived varied life and always look for new experience and adventure. I go abroad when I can. I have so many interests ranging from dancing, kayaking, singing and most of all horse riding out on the Sussex Downs where I can relax with nature. Life itself inspires my art work and what I create is usually influenced by what I have just done or where I have just been. I think my art work is often a kind of journal of the things I most love about life. I am compelled to recreate an endless range of techniques which combine materials as I enjoy the unexpected outcomes that arrive with the introduction of a new material in to a picture. I will mix acrylics, pastels, water colour, gold leaf and anything else that seems to create an interesting effect. I often start a work and leave it for many months before resuming it at a later date. This can mean the picture becomes quite a lot different from the way it started.
