Dreams Drawing

The work was painted in 2019, when we were preparing to celebrate the opening of a new route to China (although the route failed to open in the end). The child in the painting makes an airplane with his hands. This is a game I would play during lunch break in kindergarten when I was a child. I think that small games actually carry a dream of flying into the blue sky. The child dreams that his "little plane" will climb over obstacles and fly far away when other classmates are asleep. The shadows in the picture are inspired by the traditional Chinese opera art of "shadow puppet" and hand shadow games.
