Dulwich Park, Shadows Drawing

Drawings trees are a challenge with the complex shapes combined with the contrast between the bulk of the branches and the delicacy of the leaves. The balance between the lights and darks drive the depth of the drawings which combine with the different textures to require a lot of building up of lines/textures and tones to give the three-dimensional impression. The choice of subject are driven by finding lighting that helps to sculpt the tree and gives the contract between the solidness of the tree and the ability to see through to the underlying structure. A fascination with nature pushes me to find challenging scenes.
