About The Artwork
This artwork was created specially for the main festival of literature Knyzhkovij Arsenal (Book Arsenal) 2021, the corner Fontology. As a task, I should have been chosen the font of the ancient Ukrainian manuscripts, by region, and make some contemporary interpretation in my own way. Existentialism/ existentia (lat.) - is a form of philosophical inquiry that explores the problem of human existence and centers on the lived experience of the thinking, feeling, acting individual. Existentialism the form that reflects to me as an artist the most. Existentialism said that everyone has a choice and the direct influence to his destiny. this freedom, that human who is the individual, spiritual & unique being, is responsible for his choice and way. In this artwork I used few kind of calligraphic techniques: as the base I took the Ukrainian manuscripts 1553-54y., of Kyiv region, and I mixed it with my favorite and most expressive elements of abstract calligraphy. By this way I underlined the main points and questions of existentialism: individuality, absurd of being, sense, desperateness, fear of solitude, anxiety etc. I love the monochrome, but I also added a bit of red colour, as an accent and also for approximate this contemporary interpretation to original ancient manuscripts, as they also used the red letters and their elements that time. Elzara Oiseau born in 1989, is an Ukrainian artist who grew up in Crimea and graduated Crimean University with the speciality monumental art. In 2014 because of occupation of Crimea by russia, Elzara moved to Kyiv. Elzara works with abstract calligraphy. The main direction in her art is music, she uses texts mixed with images and abstract forms, according to the rhythms and melodies of certain songs. Researches of the shapes, colours, lines, reflect the perception from the structure of progressive jazz rock/metal music. In December 2021, on the first 'wave' of risk of the russian invasion and the anticipation that everything is gonna be destroyed soon, she started her 'Anxiety' series with the huge canvases with the texts, as a scream to the world. Unfortunately, 'Anxiety' series has been transformed into the 'War and post traumatic stress disorders' series. Since April 2022 Elzara lives and works in Zurich.
