About The Artwork

It's alway great when the first snow falls in autumn. Mostly the vegetation is still preparing for winter and the ground isn't frozen. That's also the reason why this snow doesn't stay (at least in the lower regions). You can feel the crip cold coming, but on the other side the sun still has to much power. A great contrast in nature. Fineliners, ink and pencil on Fabriano Artistico traditional white paper 300g/m2 40x70cm with 2,5cm border. If you want it framed, please contact me for options.

Being Dutch living in the mountains it isn’t hard to imagine where my inspiration comes from. I just have to look out of the window. But I also love to go hiking and cycling in the summertime. In the winter alpineskiing and skitouring are a great way to relax and get inspired. Whenever I go out in the mountains my camera is in my backpack. I’ve been drawing with pen and ink for over 10 years, started off with portraits, animals, cars and other vehicles and now doing mainly landscape. I’m self taught and when I’m not drawing myself I’m searching the internet for inspirational artists, getting new ideas and finding out how other artist work, so I can learn from that. And I’m also one of the founders of the Urban Sketchers chapter Tirol. Ink is non erasable and that is the part I like most about it. It is challeging not being able to erase mistakes, but work around them or try to cover them up (or just start over new). And I like the limitations of black ink. In fact you only working with black and white, but it’s still possible to make something with so much depth and contrast that people say they thought it’s a photograph.
