Foot lancer Drawing

Depicting a heavily armored foot lancer, this mechanical, Pierre Noire and colored pencils drawing has part historical and part fantasy inspiration behind. The theme is late medieval Moldavia. The character is framed by an east european folclorical wood carving (top right), by a - fantasy - logo of the Principality of Moldavia (bottom left) and by a tree bark lamella (bottom right) bearing the title: Fustas, meaning lancer in romanian. The term comes from fuste (probably the lat. fustis), which is a wooden shaft with a edged iron head, in other terms the lance. The Fustasi were generally composing the lords' and voivodes' personal guards until the XIXth century and the military reforms.
