I am still inspired by the Dada exercise of taking a. For a walk. That's this drawing was done partially with eyes closed in the very beginning. I do it so that I can feel the abstraction rather than see the abstraction. There is hope on my part that the feelings that I am having when I am creating ...

Contact us.Joann Milano Neal is a New York-born fine artist, painter, and photographer whose work explores feminine strength, sensuality, and the expressive possibilities of botanical forms. Working in oils, watercolor, pastels, and digital photography, she brings a sustained attention to gesture, line, color, and composition.
Her approach to flowers is especially personal: “I embody the flower. I become the flower.” This identification with her subject guides her attention to the curve of a petal, the movement of a stem, and the relationship between delicacy and strength. Across her photography and painting, she seeks to preserve the individual character and emotional presence of her subjects.
Joann’s fine art practice is informed by a 35-year career in the fashion textile field through Milano Merchandising Inc. She operated a textile design studio and created surface textile designs for numerous prestigious fashion houses, including Calvin Klein and Oscar de la Renta. Her work also included surface textile design for interiors for Schumacher and textile styling for Sublastatic and Boselli New York.
Alongside her design practice, Joann built an international textile career, serving as an agent for Japanese trading companies. Her work extended to Italy, Thailand, and Korea, combining textile expertise with substantial sales and negotiating responsibilities. In a male-dominated industry, she earned recognition for her negotiating skills and precise management of orders valued in the millions of dollars.
Joann graduated from New York’s High School of Art and Design, studied fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology, earned a B.A. from Hunter College, and pursued studies at The Art Students League of New York.
Her fine art and photography have appeared in solo and group exhibitions at venues including the Salmagundi Club, the Phyllis Harriman Gallery at The Art Students League, Bread and Roses Gallery, The Cell Gallery, Mollies Gallery in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art. Her honors include a national photography competition win at the Salmagundi Club, a Best in Show award at Hunter Arts Gallery, and additional awards for her art and photography.
Her photography has been featured in Dodho, 121clicks, Amateur Photographer, and other digital photography publications.
Her work is available through Saatchi Art.
