Watercolor, ink and mixed media on acetate My work begins with the physicality of the process of painting. The materiality of the watercolor and ink pooling onto the surface forming striations and islands of pigment resembling distant galaxies or topography of a fabricated landscape. Looking for shapes, gaps and forms that intrigue me or elicit the interaction of line, I begin to assert a dialectic between the organic form and an imposed, self-created geometric language of line. The process is part intuitive and part guided structure of an embodied visual language. I am interested in the myriad contradictions, opposites and contrasts that arise through human relationship to the constructed world, of which we are only a blip on the greater scale of time, and the natural world we inhabit. There is a desire to dominate the various physical and fictional landscapes that we encounter. My work playfully engages this dilemma seeking co-existence through shifts of scale, opticality, illusion and disillusion of space and a nonlinear construction of time.
